Childhood is supposed to be a time of ease and play. But even children can struggle. I have experience working with children and teens to address a variety of issues including:
- Anxiety, OCD and Phobias
- Depression
- Low self-esteem
- Bullying
- Trauma and post-traumatic stress
- Learning differences, ADHD, Autistic Spectrum disorders
- Oppositional behaviors
- Grief and loss
- Divorce
For Children
Therapy with children should be fun and engaging. My work with children incorporates both art therapy and play therapy with more traditional cognitive-behavioral and other therapy interventions.
Since healing and growth continues beyond the therapy session, I partner with parents in their child’s therapy, helping them learn how to best understand and support their child. Drawing on my background and experience as a school counselor, I can address issues that are occurring in school and help parents navigate the home/school relationship.
For Teens
The teen years are a time for exploration, experimentation, and building a sense of identity, self-efficacy and autonomy. I work with teens to develop effective communication and self-advocacy skills, to improve their interpersonal relationships, to manage stress, improve their relationships with the parents and peers, and avoid risky and self-harming behaviors.
For Parents
Our children don’t come with manuals. And each child is a unique individual with a different temperament, personality and challenges. Parents are human and come to the relationship with their own experiences and issues. My work is to help parents find the best strategies with which to support and nurture their child.
I offer parent consulting to help parents develop more effective discipline strategies, understand and communicate better with their child, and to address issues related to parenting an atypical child. I also offer parent counseling to address deeper issues that may be getting in the way of effective parenting.
Nothing can dim the light which shines from within.
